Louvre Pyramid
The 1989 glass-pyramid entrance to the Louvre contrasts modern geometry with a historic palace court.
A device that brings light and orientation to the underground hall also became a landmark.
After intense early debate, it became an established image of Paris.
It is a successful civic example of I. M. Pei’s clear, legible geometry.
