Row House in Sumiyoshi
Ando’s seminal 1976 house on a narrow Osaka site brings daylight and rain into daily life through a central court.
A closed box faces the street, while an open courtyard becomes the center of the household.
The design replaces an external urban view with an inward relationship to sky and weather.
It became a prototype for Ando’s later houses and chapels.
