Scale

Relative size in relation to the human body, city, or landscape.

The same ten meters feels different in an alley, plaza, piece of furniture, or tower. Distinguishing detail, building, and urban scales clarifies design decisions.

Monuments may intentionally overwhelm the body, while houses seek bodily fit. Large and appropriately scaled are not the same.

Comparing the Parthenon, a supertall, and a small tea room trains perception of scale.
